Creating a Scalable Blog Platform

Designing a User-Centered Blog Feature for SaaS Growth 👩‍💻

PROBLEM:

Leadpages customers were relying on an outdated and unreliable WordPress plugin to connect their blogs to their Leadpages websites. This setup was problematic due to technical issues, a lack of seamless integration, and the need to manage content across multiple platforms. Customers needed an easier, more integrated solution to manage their websites, landing pages, and blogs within Leadpages, reducing complexity and reliance on external platforms.

SOLUTION:

To solve this, my team partnered with the Product team and Engineering to design a new blog feature fully integrated into Leadpages. We planned the development in phases to ensure a smooth rollout, with Phase 1 focused on four core use cases to meet immediate user needs while allowing room for future expansion.

Key Use Cases & Features:

Blog Management: We designed an intuitive interface for users to manage their blog settings directly within Leadpages. This allowed users to create, organize, and update their blog effortlessly. The user experience was streamlined so that both seasoned marketers and those unfamiliar with blogging could easily navigate and manage their blog without needing technical expertise.

Post Creation: The post creation tool was designed to be simple yet powerful. We focused on providing an easy-to-use editor that allowed users to draft, format, and publish blog posts within the Leadpages ecosystem. The editor supports media uploads, SEO optimization, and basic formatting features, ensuring users could create high-quality blog content with minimal effort.

Author and Category Management: Users could assign authors to blog posts and create categories to better organize their content. This feature was particularly important for businesses that needed to maintain content consistency across multiple contributors. The system allowed users to categorize posts for better navigation, enhancing user experience for both blog managers and their readers.

Analytics: We integrated basic analytics into the blog feature, giving users insights into post performance, traffic, and reader engagement. By leveraging these analytics, users could make data-driven decisions to improve their content strategy. This was especially important for marketers who wanted to track their blog’s impact and optimize for conversions.

RESULTS:

By the end of Phase 1, Leadpages customers were able to create, manage, and organize a simple blog entirely within Leadpages. This empowered users to move away from the outdated WordPress plugin, providing them with a reliable, integrated blogging solution that complemented their existing Leadpages websites and landing pages. Users now had the option to either integrate the blog directly into their website or use it as a standalone entity.

The new blog feature significantly enhanced the overall value of Leadpages, allowing customers to consolidate their digital presence into one platform and eliminating the need for external tools.
