Design File Mastery

The Key to a 15% Productivity Increase in Product Development 🎉

PROBLEM:

When I joined Leadpages as the Director of Product Design, the state of the Figma files was chaotic. Since Leadpages had not previously established a dedicated product design team, they relied on a mix of freelance resources and shared resources from the parent company. This led to a lack of file organization, which created significant confusion when product or engineering teams needed to locate approved designs. The disarray made it difficult to maintain consistency, slowed down workflows, and increased the onboarding time for new designers.

SOLUTION:

To address these issues, I implemented a comprehensive file organization structure that included a standardized thumbnail pattern and clear documentation. The new system was designed to streamline the process of finding and managing design assets, making it easier for both current and new designers to navigate and contribute to projects. This structure also facilitated quicker onboarding for new designers, ensuring they could hit the ground running without getting bogged down in disorganized files.

IMPACT:

The implementation of this new file organization system led to a 15% increase in productivity for the engineering team, as they could more easily locate the designs they needed. It also eliminated confusion among designers, resulting in smoother collaboration and more consistent design outputs across the team. This initiative not only improved operational efficiency but also strengthened the overall design process at Leadpages.
